Renee Falconetti, The Passion Of Joan Of Arc (1928)
Absolutely staggering film, complete validation of film as an art form, etc.

Known for the great close-ups and emotion shown from the film’s actors, especially Maria Falconetti as the eponymous heroine, but what we almost miss in Dreyer’s The Passion of Joan of Arc (La Passion de Jeanne d’Arc) is the attention to detail in everything else, from the elaborate sets to the period costumes.

I suddenly remembered how much I loved this movie when I was younger. Haven’t seen it in donkeys’ years. But Renee Falconetti (as Joan of Arc) did a fucking amazing job.
